Making a Difference

BY BARBARA GILBERT, EDITOR

Castleberry has built his career on identifying industry problems, analyzing their causes, and developing practical solutions.

In 1996, while conducting trials with poinsettias and geraniums at North Carolina State, he recognized a need for safer transport of vase arrangements and plants after discussing the issue with a florist in Richmond. That insight led to the development of the Transporter 10® delivery system.

Introduced in 1998 at the Michigan Floral Association's Great Lakes Floral Expo, Transporter 10® is a patented system designed to reduce transport damage through graduated foam openings and a non-slip base.

Castleberry promoted the product through trade shows and industry outreach. Early coverage in Floral Management helped drive adoption, leading to distribution through American Floral Services, John Henry Company, and others.

He later expanded the line to include multiple block sizes, including 5-hole, 8-hole, small vase, medium graduated, and tall vase formats.

Castleberry has emphasized strict quality standards, requiring materials that are flexible, reliable, and capable of stabilizing arrangements during transport.

His second product line, Arrive Alive®, was launched in 2004 after a grower discussion about maintaining hydration during transport highlighted another unmet need.

After extensive testing, Castleberry developed Arrive Alive® as a foam wrap that hydrates cut flowers during transport or at the point of sale for up to three days.

The product supports cut-flower quality by delivering controlled hydration, helping strengthen consumer confidence in floral purchases.

In 2012, Chrysal® licensed and acquired both product lines from Castleberry's MAC Technologies Development Corporation. He continues to serve as an independent consultant in product development, manufacturing, and marketing, and holds three patents: two for Arrive Alive® and one for Transporter 10®.
